As I have been tinkering around and setting up content for this site, I start typing long winded explanations about Remy and his strengths and challenges. Then I sit back and remind myself that everything doesn’t have to be jammed into one place and one reason to have this blog is to be able to focus on all the facets of our autism journey.
There is a popular quote in the autism world that says “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism,” by Dr. Stephen Shore. People on the autism spectrum are so unique and everyone’s experiences are very different. That being said, there are aspects of autism that are seemingly more common and where autists can relate to one another as well as parents finding a common bond. Remy’s journey, however, has been nothing if not unique. From time to time I have written posts in support groups, lamenting about the isolation one can feel when they have no other families to identify with. Then I get over myself and count every blessing we have in life. One of my hopes for this site, is to show our experience and hope that others may find solace in knowing they aren’t alone.
Welcome to our family!
